Sexy Nerd and I recently completed a road trip from Albuquerque, NM to Phoenix and Tucson. As you may remember, a certain someone hates staycations, so we had to get out of our own state. We loaded up the trusty Alero and hit the road. Our first stop was Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona.
Pretty, but not pretty enough to pull over?
Bam!
Chilling in the shade of the Crazy Old Man hat.
Petrified Forest petroglyphs.
Our theory is that ancient teenagers were bored (wouldn't you be??) and vandalized these rocks.

The park service and scientists everywhere have a different theory.
Our next road trip destination...
(duh nuh na nuh)
The Grand Canyon
Sexy Nerd is a bit of a worrywart and he refused to venture anywhere near the edge. Like, anywhere remotely close to it. This photo was taken with the lens zoomed waaay in and has been cropped so that I'm not off in the distance.
I was being cautious. See me using that tree for safety?
Now, if you're anywhere around the southwest, you may recall that it was incredibly, ridiculously, smack-you-in-the-face awesomely windy the Thursday and Friday of Memorial Day weekend. *Perfect* weather for the Grand Canyon.
The above photo ended with a gust of wind and Sexy Nerd frantically screaming "Get back here! You're going to get blown over the edge!"
It was magnificent, but...
the wind really was just too much fun to enjoy any longer.
Off we went to our hotel to enjoy some Michelob ULTRA Light Cider and to order pizza.
I wasn't sure how well this combination would work (the pizza and the cider beer - pizza with olives, banana peppers, salami, feta, pepperoni, onions, and steak always works!)
(As for those fungusy mushrooms Sexy Nerd insisted on...meh.)
The Michelob ULTRA Light Cider was actually perfect! I was a bit nervous that it would taste too sweet, but it isn't at all. It was exactly the kind of crisp, refreshing drink you would want after a day of exploring the desert. It reminds me of the fancy sparkling apple cider that people often serve at holidays and weddings, with the addition of alcohol. Brilliant!
Sexy Nerd, who prides himself on brewing his own beer, was reluctant to even try my Michelob ULTRA Light Cider. He said it went against everything home-brew stands for.
No pressure to try it, of course.
"This is commercial beer. It is not real beer."
"It looks nothing like my home-brew."
Apparently, a sign of a good beer is to sniff it??
"You're not going to post these photos on your blog, right? I have a beer brewing reputation to uphold."
Finally!
SEXY NERD LOVES MICHELOB ULTRA LIGHT CIDER!
Michelob Ultra Dragon Fruit Peach
As I type this blog post, Sexy Nerd is actually attempting to create a beer recipe that duplicates the Michelob ULTRA Light Cider. Really. I told him that it needs to be low calorie, just like the Michelob, but he's not sure that's feasible. He says he can match them on the hand picked apples part.
Luckily for all you folks out there who aren't married to crazy Sexy Nerds, you can save yourself the time, expense, and mess (oh, the horrible, horrible mess of brewing your own beer! If only I could go back in time and stop this hobby of his!) and just buy this tasty beer at your local grocery store or Walmart.
Now I'm tipped off to all the other yummy sounding varieties of Michelob ULTRA, including Michelob Ultra Dragon Fruit Peach and something called Lime Cactus. I'm hoping to find a variety pack soon that mixes Michelob's light cider with all their other flavors. These seem like the ideal summer drinks to pour into an icy glass and lounge on my porch swing with Sexy Nerd (who you just know will be drinking my Michelob ULTRAs too!)
Which favorite summer meal or activity do you think would go best with Michelob ULTRA Dragon Fruit Peach?
I'm thinking we should load up some sandwiches and Michelob ULTRA Light Cider and ride my fancy new bike to the park for a picnic.
