10 Decorating Ideas for Your Cozy Mountain Home

Here are more design ideas from the Summit County Parade of Homes . Enjoy! 1. Windows that go all the way down to the countertop (or countertops/desks/tables that come all the way up to the bottom of the window) look amazing. Stretching the window wall to wall is even better. Update: When building our dream home in the NM mountains, our builder explained that this does cost a bit more, as it requires very specific framing to make sure everything lines up perfectly. 2. Frame square cubbies right into the drywall for a modern bookcase. When we build our dream home next year, I'd like to do something similar but with wood on the bottom of each shelf. Or stone. Or maybe a bright, fun color painted onto the back of each cubby - a different one in each square.  Our poor builder doesn't know what he's gotten himself into. 3. For maximum impact, you need many, MANY pendant lights. 4. Have a little nook/hallway? Don't just leave it plain and boring. A lit

I'm Not a Clever Candy Bar Stasher

What's the drawer under the oven for? When you started living on your own, did you ever do anything stupid? Like really, really stupid? I did and Sexy Nerd is never going to let me forget it. Geez, I was stupid. Perhaps I'm not the only one though. Let me ask you a question... What is this? (Photo from our 1st home:  https://www.kittydeschanel.com/2017/05/home-interior-decor-photos-kitchen-dining-room.html ) If you answered "I don't know what the heck that is," you'd better read on and learn from my mistake. I have a little disorder known as 'frugalitis'. Some people would insist that I'm just very cheap, but I assure you that it is a serious condition that's completely out of my control. I don't normally spend money on anything frivolous, but I love those little candy bars that used to go on sale for 10/$1. There are a lot to choose from. Kit Kats, Milky Ways, 100 Grands, etc. A few years ago, Hershey changed these to 8/$1

Field and Vine, Friends and Wine: Our Dinner in the Field

Dreaming of a farm-to-table experience on an actual farm? Sexy Nerd and I have discovered Field & Vine, an Oregon company that hosts special dinners and events. Don't get too attached to Bessie over there... Clarification: Bessie is a cow over in the field, not me. You cannot see the cow in the photo. Again, I am not Bessie. A Night of Culinary Connection and Wine-Fueled Friendships Last July, on a quest to conquer Oregon's wonders and combat adulting fatigue, we stumbled upon the "Dinner in the Field" event at Marion Acres hosted by Field & Vine. This wasn't your average dinner party; it was a celebration of local bounty, exceptional wines, and the joy of finding kindred spirits over shared plates. Surrounded by friendly faces and glasses filled with Suzor wines, we indulged in a multi-course masterpiece showcasing the heart and soul of Marion Acres. It wasn't just about the food; it was about the entire experience. Marion Acres: From Humble Beginning

Spring Decorating Ideas

Update: We've (and by that I mean Sexy Nerd solely on his own) been transforming our home little by little. I never post photos though! It's weird because I was really looking forward to being able to share our decorating progress, back while we were designing the house for all those years. So let's do this! Here are the photos I shared a few years ago. I'll take some updated shots toda...tomorr...by next week for sure! I'll at least post by the time we have our this-never-happens April snowstorm that happens every single year, shocking everyone for no reason at all. Original: You may not be able to visit our home right now (you'd totally be here if not for COVID-19, right?), but here are a few photos with spring decorating ideas to enjoy. Decorating projects currently in process? Tiling the walls (and groin ceiling!) of our dining room with mother of pearl in a herringbone pattern. We're also working on a backsplash for our outdoor kitchen - the mos

Santa Fe Souper Bowl: Your Guide to The Food Depot's Annual Event

Hey there, fellow flavor fanatics! Hold onto your ladles because last weekend, my Sexy Nerd and I embarked on another culinary adventure at The Food Depot's Souper Bowl in Santa Fe, NM. Here's the scoop: Picture 24 local chefs in a soup showdown extravaganza, like the Super Bowl, but with more slurping and less tackling. The 30th-anniversary Souper Bowl drew 2,000 hungry souls, VIPs storming the scene at 11:00, and the General Admission fiesta kicking off at noon. Winners were crowned by 2:00 pm, with categories like Best Soup in Santa Fe & Best Vegetarian Soup. Now, the Lobby Soup Showdown had us torn between Chicken Posole Rojo and Tomato Lentil. This is New Mexico, so our money was on posole for the win. Saving room for soup, not just bread, was a smart move. There was so much soup I could barely sample them all, lest I burst, or at the very least make a funny sloshing sound when I walk. Sexy Nerd's fave? Boxcar Santa Fe's, which cleverly included Green Chile
